MotoGo is a motorcycle navigation app for Android. This policy explains what data the app uses, why, and with whom it is shared. It applies to the Google Play version.

We do not sell your personal information. MotoGo does not use advertising identifiers or third-party ads.

1. Who is responsible

Data controller: Omnia Labs (KvK 42141030)
Contact: robin@omnialabs.nl

2. Data we use

We collect and use only what is needed to run the app:

  • Google account (sign-in) — when you sign in with Google, we receive a Firebase Auth session and basic account identifiers (such as user ID and email) so you can use community features and keep your session across app restarts.
  • Location (precise, when you allow it) — to show your position on the map, plan and follow routes, announce guidance, publish ephemeral presence for nearby riders (when Premium and Ghost Mode are off), and attach location to police Hot Zone reports. Location is used while the app is open and, during an active ride, via a visible foreground navigation service. If you refuse location permission, navigation and community map features will not work properly.
  • Device heading / compass — to rotate your map avatar and attach a direction to Hot Zone reports. Processed on the device.
  • Microphone / voice input (when you use it) — to search for a destination by speech. Speech recognition is handled by the Android system / Google speech services on your device; we receive the resulting text for search, not a stored audio recording on our servers.
  • Community content — Hot Zone reports and votes you submit (location, heading, timestamps, your user ID) are stored in Firebase Realtime Database so other signed-in riders can see and confirm or mark them as gone.
  • Live rider presence (Premium) — if Premium is active and Ghost Mode is off, a short-lived presence record (coordinates, heading, speed, server timestamp) is written under your user ID so nearby Premium riders can see you. Presence is removed when you enable Ghost Mode, leave, or disconnect.
  • Route and search requests — destination queries and route requests (including coordinates and ride-style preference) are sent to our self-hosted routing backend at routing.omnialabs.nl (Valhalla + Photon) to return motorcycle routes and place suggestions.
  • Map display — Google Maps SDK loads map tiles and related map data to render the map.
  • Purchases (Premium) — Google Play Billing processes subscriptions. We receive purchase status from Google Play so the app can unlock Premium features. We send an obfuscated account identifier derived from your user ID to Google Play for purchase association; we do not receive your full payment card details.
  • On-device preferences — settings such as onboarding completion, Ghost Mode preference, and garage selections may be stored locally on your phone (for example with Android DataStore).
  • Notifications — during an active ride we show a foreground navigation notification so guidance can continue while the screen is off or another app is open.

3. How data is shared (third parties)

We share data with service providers only to operate the features above:

ServiceWhat is sentWhy
Google Sign-In / Firebase AuthenticationGoogle account tokens and profile identifiers needed for sign-inCreate and maintain your signed-in session
Firebase Realtime DatabaseLive rider presence, Hot Zone reports and votesCommunity safety and nearby-rider features

Google Maps SDKMap display requests as required by GoogleShow the map in the app
Google Play BillingPurchase flow data and obfuscated account IDSell and restore MotoGo Premium subscriptions

Their own privacy policies also apply, including the Google Privacy Policy and Firebase Privacy and Security pages.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use AdMob or advertising IDs in MotoGo.

4. Legal basis (EEA / UK)

Where GDPR applies, we process data on these bases:

  • Contract / service delivery — providing navigation, account sign-in, Premium entitlements, and community features you choose to use.
  • Your consent — location permission; microphone / voice search when you use it; optional community sharing (Hot Zones, live presence).
  • Legitimate interests — securing the service, preventing abuse of community reports, keeping preferences on your device, and operating our routing infrastructure.

You may withdraw consent at any time in the device settings (for example by revoking location or microphone permission). That does not affect processing already done.

5. Retention

  • Account — your Firebase Auth account remains until you request deletion or delete the Google-linked access as described below.
  • Live rider presence — ephemeral; overwritten on each update and removed on disconnect, Ghost Mode, or app teardown.
  • Hot Zones — expire after community “gone” votes or after a limited confirmation window (currently eight hours after the latest confirmation), as enforced by our database rules.
  • Routing / search — processed to answer your request; we do not build a personal trip-history profile for advertising.
  • Local preferences — stay on your device until you clear app data or uninstall.
  • Purchases — retained by Google Play under Google’s rules; the app only needs current entitlement status.

6. Security

Network requests use HTTPS. Community writes require a signed-in user and are limited by Firebase security rules (for example, you may only write your own presence node). No method of transmission is 100% secure, but we limit what we collect and who can write community data.

7. Children

MotoGo is not directed at children under 16. Do not use the app if you are under the age required in your country for this type of navigation and community service.

8. Your choices

Location

  • Android: Settings → Apps → MotoGo → Permissions → Location.

Ghost Mode

When Premium is active, enable Ghost Mode in the app to hide your live presence from other riders.

Voice search

Do not use voice destination search if you do not want speech processed by the device speech service.

Community

Do not submit Hot Zone reports if you do not want that location shared with other signed-in riders.

Local data

Clearing app storage or uninstalling MotoGo removes local preferences from that device.

9. Your rights and data deletion

Depending on your country (including GDPR in the EU), you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or a copy of personal data we hold, and you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the Netherlands: Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

To delete your MotoGo-related account data, email robin@omnialabs.nl with subject “MotoGo data deletion” and include the Google account email you used to sign in. We will delete or anonymise data we control (including Firebase Auth and community records tied to your user ID) as soon as reasonably possible, and within the time required by law.

10. International transfers

Some providers (including Google / Firebase) may process data in the United States or other countries. Those providers are responsible for their own transfer safeguards. Our routing backend is operated by Omnia Labs.

11. Changes

We may update this policy when the app or the law changes. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
